Finding a Head of Vocational Publishing
[ 10 Dec 2008 ]
The considerable investment in the UK government's lifelong learning initiatives has been a boost for several educational publishing companies and one of the major players wanted to appoint an experienced publishing manager to lead a division of its vocational publishing business. We needed to find someone who understood the educational publishing market and the closer they already were to vocational, the more immediate their impact was likely to be. Consequently we targeted our research on a number of publishing companies in the field and made contact with people at the appropriate level. In this sort of situation external candidates will always be compared with those who apply internally and it's usually not apparent to the search firm who is likely to come out on top. In this case, an external appointment was made and 2009 should be an interesting time in this market.
