Helping an experienced salesperson into a job

We have conducted many searches in the schools publishing field and consequently are often approached by individuals seeking a new position.  One such was an experienced sales consultant who was recommended by a trusted source and as we were not retained to fill any such vacancies at the time, we made contact with the publishing companies to see if they had any needs, cold calling where we had no previous contact.  Fortuitously there was a gap which matched in one - both in experience and geographical terms - and ultimately an appointment resulted.
