Finding an International Business Development Director in outdoor advertising

We worked with one of the major outdoor advertising businesses to help find a Group Development Director to focus on the international street furniture advertising business.  This is about winning contracts to sell advertising on all types of street furniture.

Whilst familiarity with the sector would have been valuable, there are only a handful of key players and so we needed to widen the net.  We needed to find someone who understood the important issues involved in public sector contracts and where problems might arise, who could co-ordinate approaches and drive best practice throughout business units, advise on post contract negotiations and generally provide impetus and advice.  Looking for these qualities led us into the facilities management sector, a fast growing collection of businesses which employ some talented people.  In the event we found transferable skills and a number of well qualified people who were attracted to the challenges of the role and resulted in a promising appointment.
